The Campaign is Over, Help Us Balance the Books
January 7, 2007

Here's our Post Election FEC Report. A year-end report is due later in January, and will include some final bills that do not show up on this report.

This was such a wonderful grassroots campaign, and I really loved carrying the progressive, anti-war banner for all of you. If votes could be calibrated based on the passion of the voters, I would have won hands down.

While the passion was there, as you know, the big money was not. And the people who worked on our campaign were, and are, also involved in so many other worthwhile causes. I appreciate all that energy and the reality of limited resources. All of the vendors have been paid, so we owe no money other than to ourselves. But the bottom line is that, at this point, it looks like David and I will be personally swallowing about $17,000 in campaign expenses. For us, that's a lot of money.

We have gotten a few post-election contributions to help retire the campaign debt, which I appreciate very much. We did the math, and if fewer than half the people on our campaign email list would stretch their own limited resources and contribute $25 (or another $25), this debt would go away.

How about it? To save money we have taken down our secure web contribution link, but you can still send a check, made out to Jean Hay Bright US Senate 2006, along with a print-out of our contribution form, to:

Thanks to you all, and best wishes for a happy holiday season, and real peace on earth in 2007.
Jean
